Pear-Shaped Worshiping

Good morning everyone,

I hope everyone's new year is going great and remember don't set yourself up to fail by setting unrealistic goals and expectation on yourself, that you know in your heart of hearts you are not ready or prepare to make.

Today I wanted to get a few thoughts of my chest about something I have be observing in the plus size body positive community, I say plus size because the body positive movement is not just for plus size people, but today I am speaking about plus size in particular.

What I am talking about is pear-shaped worshiping and I feel "we" within the community have become just as obsessed with this being the standard of acceptable plus size just as much or maybe even more then mainstream media. In doing this "we" are still being controlled and brain washed by main stream media because our actions are saying yes your are right this is the only "right" way to be shaped. I thought the goal with this movement is to empower all people of all shapes.

Just look around 99 % percent of the top most exposed and biggest social media platforms are held by "Plus Size" models and actress are pear-shaped.Some of our top plus size brands are still only using pear-shaped models. Some of our top brands who run nationwide modeling searches, when it comes down to the final contestants they are always pear-shaped with small angular faces. I know some of you will say, what about Tess Holiday? Tess Holiday is a beautiful larger model, but she is also pear-shaped with an angular face. We need to start being real with ourselves in this community and admit that "we" have put the pear-shaped on the top of our hypothetical totem pole and the rounder your features are the lower on the pole you are place. When "we" as a community can admit this then "we" as a community can move forward.

When I joined this movement and began my my journey of self -love and acceptance I thought unlike main stream media, this movement would be free of "certain" hierarchy's. Well unfortunately I have come to realize that this was untrue and we have a long way to go. I am hopeful that my fellow body positive family will continue to shoot past the stars, break barriers and kick down doors.

I hope the fashion industry will start to make bigger leaps and really start to include ALL plus size people. It is almost like they are saying here we are using "Plus Size" women, now can all of you ACTUALLY plus size women crawl back under your bridge...NO! I will not and can not crawl back under that main stream and self imposed bridge because I burnt that MotherF**ker to the ground!

Just my confessions,

xoxo

Nikki

One last Thought: How can we want the world to stop discriminating against us, when we discriminant against our-self?
